This is not a blog post

This is my mind today:

I don’t know how some bloggers manage to post every day — sometimes several times a day! I’m already feeling like a large part of this month’s posting was just… filler, in a way, with very little of actual substance. Screenies and game first-impressions are all very well, but that’s not really how I conceive of this place.

Maybe being happier makes me a worse blogger. Having moved to a much nicer house in a much nicer part of the country makes me a damn sight less cranky than I used to be, which seems to equate with having less to write about. I’m also playing somewhat less — all that fresh air to be inhaled and exhaled — and paying a great deal less of attention to the teacup-storms of the MMO-gaming world.

Upside: less cranky. Downside: less to blog about.

I’m not claiming to be a cantankerous blogger — at least not for the most part — but I do want what I write to be motivated by something other than my prosaic daily experiences in-game. Some people write extremely well about their in-game life (Stargrace, Tipa), but I am not one of them. I’m more interested in what makes games and gamers tick, and lately I seem to have had few thoughts and thus little to say on that subject.

Melmoth the even-more-aptly-named has his quiet, semi-literal, wandering doldrums. I have my metaphorical blogging doldrums. Woe is me! Albatross*!

* And lo, there is an upside to everything. Even albatrosses. Albatri? (MP’s Hollywood Bowl Albatross sketch, mildly NSFW — for those who, like me, like to know what the hell they’re clicking on before they end up with BADGER BADGER** blaring in their work cubicle.)

** NOT safe for work unless you turn the sound off first, but where would be the fun in that?

  1. Well I, for one, enjoy your writing style, and don’t care if it’s sometimes “fluff” just to fill a post.

  2. I have no clue either how other bloggers post multiple times a day (I’m looking at you Syp!). If I post twice a week, I know I am doing well. Anywho, keep fighting the good fight.

  3. I have had many issues with this. I am having so much fun in the game I am blogging about, that I just do not have the time to write…or the game is not giving me a reason to gripe.
Blogs seem to be a place to let go, and if I have nothing to “let go”, then why write.

Now, if I was paid for that work….hmmm

    • Heh see, getting paid for it would probably render me incapable of writing anything. Well, anything in my own style, anyway. I’d get paralysed by the pressure!! the expectations!! the audience!!

      I feel faint now.

  4. I actually figured that geting a post a week was pretty good. IMHO, even once a day is over-achieving.

    • I’m mostly a write-when-you-have-something-to-say kind of blogger (which isn’t to imply that those who post daily have nothing useful to say!), but since I write as well and there’s a school of thought that says sometimes you should just WRITE whether you want to or not, I thought I’d try it out here for a month.

      Is it August yet?!

  5. Every word is sacred on my blog, there is no fluff. 🙂 Seriously though someone once famous once said, “A writer, writes”

I try to post something everyday, why to get the words out of my head. Sometimes it’s pure awesome, most of the time it’s pure crap. As a writer your gonna have to realize 95% of the stuff you put out is going to be crap. It’s that 5%, those rare gems in a pile of manure that make this hobby fun.

Don’t have nothing to write? Bullshit, take a look around at your world, or virtual world of choice. There’s plenty to write about if you know where to look. I think you have to be very opinionated to be a writer, I can hold up a glass of water form an opinion on it like if the glass is to short, or wide, so on and so forth, and write about it.

The main question about the blog, your blog is what is the goal of the blog? What are the goals you yourself are trying to accomplish?

  6. OMG I just realized it has been two weeks since I last posted on my own blog. Horreur!

I have an excuse, though. I finally got a job. Great for bills and stuff and but terrible for blog posting. It has also been pretty hot here and I still refuse to get an air conditioner, so the upside is that I don’t feel like being anywhere near my space heaters … I mean my computers.
